Nowadays Lefkada is connected to the mainland by a floating bridge and is thus easily accessible at all times. It is a beautiful island, with some of the best white sandy beaches of Europe. It has a luxurious vegetation of mostly pine and olive trees. The island is the biggest wine producer of the Ionian Islands. Known by watersports lovers for its fantastic wind- and kitesurfing spots, its marina, the diving, fishing, etc…, Lefkada offers everything for an active or a relaxing holiday. Culture and history are available on the island and on the archaeological sites nearby on the mainland. The quite mountainous interior of the island, the highest point is at 1150m, is ideal for hiking, biking, or just driving around by car. Olive groves, pine trees, donkeys and goats and small traditional hidden villages await you here. The nearest-by village is Agios Nikitas, at about 2 km. Here you can find restaurants, bars, shops and small supermarkets. A huge sun terrace with private pool overlooks the white sandy beach of Kathisma. There is an al-fresco dining area with exterior kitchen. There are charter flights from most European countries from April through October. From here, you can either rent a car or take a taxi.By bus :From the Athens bus station, you can take a bus 4 times a day. The trip takes about 5 hours in a comfortable airconditioned coach.
